Cashews timeline
- 2014: Jonathan builds a tool named Daily Balance to log in to bank websites and send account balances via SMS.
- 2016: Jonathan gives up on budgeting in Mint and adds cash flow analysis to the Daily Balance tool.
- Q3 2020: Jonathan tests 40+ personal finance tools, with the goal of replacing the 5-year-old Daily Balance.
- Q4 2020: With no suitable personal finance apps, Jonathan decides to test the market to see if there are others searching for a similar product. Work begins on designing a marketing website.
- Q1 2021: The Cashews website is released and marketing activities begin.
- Q2 2021: The email list grows to over 1,000 interested people in just a few weeks. Customers are surveyed and interviewed and plans for an initial version of the app are created.
- Q3-Q4 2021: Development of the beta. Preparing for the public release, we recruit a community of Beta customers to provide feedback on the app.
- Q1 2022: First public release of Cashews Finance! It includes the fundamental cash flow analysis features, Safe to Spend amounts, and Daily Balance notifications.
- Q2 2022: Cashews wins #1 app of the day on Product Hunt! Added many features and updated the core Spendable to accommodate a wider range of customer spending behaviors.
- Q3 2022: Updated the onboarding process to add tutorials for all of the new customers joining.
- Q4 2022: Released a number of usability and app performance improvements. Started work on new feature requests from customers.
- Q1 2023: Updated transaction filtering, smart notifications, income editing, and the ability to include or exclude predicted expenses. Released a new and improved Dashboard with ‘Can I afford it?’ widget.
